As a licensed therapist, the main focus of my treatment is establishing a therapeutic relationship, as I believe in facilitating effective counseling, primarily the connection between therapist and client In therapy, I am compassionate, supportive, and present. I work with my clients to meet them where they are emotionally, but also providing them the accountability to help them reach their goals.

The therapeutic process can help empower individuals to work through difficult life transitions, traumatic events, strained relationships, depression, anxiety, and other stressors. My passion for exploring the underlying psychological forces that drive behavior and thought patterns is the core of helping my clients make meaning of their life and achieve the changes they seek.

My specific niche is working with trauma and anxiety. I have experience working with an array of concerns such as depression, OCD, LGBTQ, trauma, and eating disorders. My counseling style combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). I collaborate with the client to set specific goals and a treatment plan that can include many of the following: role play, meditation, psychoeducation, book studies, mindfulness, thought records, exposure techniques, cognitive restructuring, and eye movements.

As successful as I am at being a therapist, you would believe that this was my lifelong goal, with my ability to help many turn their lives around. But it wasn’t! I started by getting my bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Houston and began working as a paralegal for several law firms. This was when I questioned myself about what I could do to feel fulfilled and serve a bigger purpose in life. I knew instinctively that if I was questioning myself, perhaps a different path was waiting for me.

My journey was laced with what seemed like divine intervention suggesting and pointing me in the direction I needed to go. The journey led to another degree in education and teaching for five years to become a school counselor. While teaching, I worked on my master’s degree in school counseling.

I then landed a job in a behavior transition program, an off-campus program for working teens who needed the skills to return to their home campus. My ability to build trust and truly help these teens got the attention of my supervisor, who suggested that I become a full-fledged licensed therapist.

Today, I am the successful owner and therapist at Serenity Wellness and Counseling Center, where I stay busy inspiring clients to heal by using evidence-based techniques. I have found my life’s passion and want to share it with our community.

I am a native of Cypress, Texas. In my free time, I enjoy boating, working on the tractor, and volunteering. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, and we have three children. I am also a huge animal lover! We have 10 rabbits, three tortoises, three dogs, three chickens, and a duck. My mom lives on the property to help out and provides two cats of her own to add to the mix.

Liss Torreblanca is a client-centered therapist who understands that she must meet her client’s needs at their precise stage of life. Her approach to therapy encompasses empathy, compassion, and non-judgment. She focuses her treatment on using interventions of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). Liss’s future goals are to continue learning and implementing a deeper understanding of trauma-related disorders, and maladaptive coping skills, and to increase a client-based practice of empowerment and resiliency.

Liss spent most of her younger years in Alabama and attended West Virginia University Institute of Technology on a soccer scholarship, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Liss continued her education at Marshall University and earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. She received multi-faceted training and experience while participating in Practicum and Internship Programs. Liss worked in a Substance Use Disorder Clinic that provided first-hand experience and training to guide and equip clients transitioning into everyday life. She also worked at a Trauma-focused Clinic where she served young children through senior clients who dealt with various needs and issues. Liss gained experience working with abuse, foster care, grief, trauma-related disorders, and clients involved with Children’s Protective Services. As a graduate assistant, Liss worked with theHandle With Care Program, which focused on crisis intervention of Opioid Addiction in the educational system in West Virginia. Liss is trained in the principles of Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and Art Therapy which she regularly incorporates into her sessions with clients.

Moving to Houston opened new opportunities for Liss to expand her experience and training. Liss worked at an adolescent residential shelter providing counseling and family therapy for adolescents transitioning back into their family lives. Working at The Eating Recovery Center in Houston provided an opportunity to understand and incorporate skills for working with clients dealing with eating disorder issues. When Liss is not in sessions, she can be found cuddling and spoiling her Pom-Corgi mix-Rosco, running a trail, and listening to music.

Serenity Wellness & Counseling Center provides a beautiful opportunity for Liss to implement her extensive training and experience with her clients. Liss hopes to continue creating a safe space where clients can feel safe, understood, and empowered to take steps toward their goals. Liss offers empathy and compassion while incorporating a varied modality approach to counseling.
