How it works

1. Intake & Assessment

The intake process involves a comprehensive evaluation conducted by one of our licensed professional counselors or functional medicine health coaches. This assessment aims to ascertain whether Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) aligns with your treatment plan. If the initial evaluation indicates that KAP may be suitable for your needs, you will then be introduced to one of our KAP certified therapists. The KAP therapist will further assess your situation and, if deemed appropriate, initiate a referral to our prescriber at Journey Clinical. Upon approval, we proceed to the Preparation phase.

2. Preparation

In the Preparation phase of your KAP session, we focus on ensuring a meaningful and constructive experience for you. Our team will work closely with you to provide a clear understanding of what you can anticipate during your treatment journey. We’ll guide you in cultivating the right mindset for your sessions, assist in setting your intentions, and offer guidance on post-treatment care. This phase also involves delving into your core beliefs and discussing potential focal points for exploration during your sessions. This phase will be done over several sessions.

3. Exploration

In the KAP exploration session, you’ll transition into an altered state of consciousness. Clients often express sensations of profound relaxation and curiosity, discovering an enhanced ability to navigate complex emotions and life events, all under the expert guidance of our highly skilled team. For the KAP dosing session, you will self-administer your ketamine lozenge at our office. This will be one session lasting 3-4 hours.

4. Integration (*under KAP Plan)

During the integration sessions in the KAP plan, we focus on reviewing the memories, thoughts, and insights that emerge during your dosing session. In this altered and neuroplastic state, your brain has the remarkable capacity to form new connections and reshape established patterns. Our adept therapists play a crucial role in helping you uncover these insights and ensure that the progress you’ve achieved during your Ketamine Exploration is not only preserved but also effectively integrated into your daily life. This integration process serves as a vital step in preventing any relapse of your symptoms. This phase can be completed in one to three sessions.

5. Follow up

Follow-up sessions with the Journey Clinical prescriber include prescription refills, when applicable. Your ketamine dosage is tailored to your unique needs, considering factors like your comfort level, medical history, and tolerance. The Journey Clinical prescriber will provide their recommendation regarding dosage, and collaboratively as a team, we will determine if further dosage sessions are necessary to support your ongoing healing journey.

frequently asked questions

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help eligible patients experience more frequent breakthroughs and sustained improvement in symptoms. I take on the psychotherapy portion of the experience, while Journey Clinical’s medical team supports you on all medical aspects. This includes determining eligibility, developing a custom treatment plan, prescribing the medicine and monitoring outcomes.

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety and PTSD. Ketamine has rapidly- acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects, which can begin to take effect within 1-2 hrs. after treatment. It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA receptors as well as by stimulating AMPA receptors, which are thought to help form new synaptic connections and boost neural circuits that regulate stress and mood. Ketamine has also been shown to enhance overall neuroplasticity for lasting symptom improvement.
Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges. In my work with Journey Clinical we only use the sublingual lozenge form.

The effects of ketamine, which most patients find pleasant, last for approximately 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience. Once these effects subside, we’ll spend the remainder of our appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happens during the experience, patients feel like the insights gained are clear.

Journey Clinical is a platform for licensed psychotherapists to incorporate science-based psychedelic therapies in their practice safely and effectively, starting with Ketamine- Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Journey Clinical’s in-house medical team takes on patient eligibility, prescriptions and outcome monitoring, while I take on the therapy. In order to provide clarity on the long-term expenses of therapy, we’ve compiled a price comparison that includes a widely used therapeutic technique for addressing issues like PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and depression. You can also consider this in the context of a traditional talk therapy comparison, although it’s important to note that, in practice, we often surpass the 24 sessions mentioned in our comparison chart. As you can observe, while Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) may involve higher initial costs, the cumulative expenses of traditional talk therapy and EMDR over time amount to a significantly greater sum. Furthermore, it’s essential to recognize the additional advantages of promoting brain healing through KAP.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy
Preparation Support$170 X 3 = $510$170 X 5 (or more) = $850
Exploration Session (s)$170 x 3 Hours = $510$170 X 24 (or more) sessions = $4080
Integration Support$170 X 3 (or less) = $510$170 x 2 (final sessions with therapist) = $340
Journey Clinical Medical Session + Ketamine (enough for 2 sessions)$250 + $85 = $335
Journey clinical follow up$150 (if necessary)
$2015  (additional cost if need more then 1 exploration session)$5270
